Steel Bridge Deck Forms
ADVANTAGES OF PERMANENT STEEL BRIDGE DECK FORMS
LOWER COST:
Construction cost data in bridge form using states shows superstructure concrete costs that are 10% lower than states with minimal or no bridge form usage.
The predominance of use in design build projects, especially in states where the product is not included in the general state specification, is strong evidence that contractors know metal forms provide the greatest economy.
FASTER:
Forms arrive at the jobsite fabricated to size and can be installed with 2-3 man crews 2-3 times faster than traditional wood forms. No cranes are required for installation, and no scaffolding is required for removal.
REDUCED TRAFFIC DISRUPTION:
All installation work is done from above and executed quickly. No removal is required.
SAFER:
Installed forms provide a secure working platform. No scaffolding or shoring is required for construction and the hazards associated with form removal are eliminated.
Although forms are only required during construction, they will contain spalling concrete throughout their service life and prevent it from falling onto motorists below.
STRONGER:
Metal forms help to control moisture during the critical curing period, resulting in greater concrete strength.
Though not accounted for in the design, as long as the permanent form is in place, it is supporting the full dead load of the concrete slab that it was designed for, increasing the total capacity of the bridge deck.
LONGER SERVICE LIFE:
The condition of permanent steel bridge deck forms on existing structures that are 30-40 years old demonstrate the product’s longevity, even in harsh coastal environments (see the Projects section of our website).
DESIGN FLEXIBLITY:
Steel bridge deck forms can be used with steel or concrete girders, curved or straight, super-elevated or flat, and is ideal for rehabilitation projects.
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY:
Steel is 100% recyclable and infinitely recyclable.
