Can I install metal deck over a curved roof without cutting a sheet for each span?
Can I install metal deck over a curved roof without cutting a sheet for each span?
Yes, if the radius of curvature is large enough, you can walk the deck down and curve it in the field.
The tables below show the minimum radii that can be achieved when bending type B roof decks and type N roof decks “the hard way” at common support spacings.
Minimum Radius of Curvature (ft) for B DECK
Minimum Radius of Curvature (ft) for N DECK
Tips for field curving deck
1. Fasten every corrugation at the starting end of the sheets so that the sheets don’t spring up as you curve them and do the same at the trailing end so it stays in place.
2. Butt the ends of the sheets instead of overlapping them.
3. Use screws instead of welds at the supports. Tightening the screws will help pull the deck down to the support.
